The Salt Lake ABC has been growing in members, which is fantastic. The relevancy of this, is that is organizing has become easier and we are more able to accommodate different fundraising campaigns that arise from what seems like a never ending struggle against the state. As anarchists we see said struggle as very necessary and want to support others who get caught in hard places because they also believe the same. This is all a long winded way of telling you that we’re having a benefit in December.

For those who haven’t heard about the recent flurry of grand jury subpoenas going out, we recommend you check out the website dedicated to those resisting.

Utah came under attack from the infamous ‘lose all your rights’ subpoenas a few years back, and as a result local activist and sweet heart Jordan Halliday served time for refusing to speak. Unfortunately the ABC was not around at the time to support him, so we’re making sure we help others who are going through the same ordeal now.

Salt Lake Anarchist Black Cross is proud to present: “The Resistdance” – A Benefit Show for Grand Jury Resisters

Performers will include

All proceeds will be going to the Pacific Northwest Grand Jury resistors.

In addition to the lovely music, there will be a vegan bake sale and a raffle for really cool shit!

Doors at 7:00 p.m. $5 entry, raffle tickets will be going for$3 for one, an $5 for two. Bake sale goods will be marked at the event. Will take place at 1133 Richard’s Street (between Main an West Temple right by the Ball Park!)

Message from Kteeo!

We got a letter from one of the PNW Grand Jury resistors, Kteeo Olgnik!

New Freiends in SLC!

I want to start by thanking y’all for the incrediblesupport that I have been receiving – every letter that I receive brings me strength and smiles- so again, thank you thankyou thankyou. I also want to apologize for those who I have yet to write back to (postage is a bit of an issue). I hope that y’all know that even if I have not written back I am so thankful to all of you. You all inspire me.

I also want to assure you all that I am really doing as well as can be expectied in these circumstances, I have met so many incredible strong women in here. We spend our days working out, playing games, reading and most importantly supporting each other. Their strength gives me strength and I hope it is at least somewhat reciprocal.

I also have the incredible privilege of having a support team behind me. The work they do is incredible and they are truly amazing human beings.

So anyway, thank you all again and I hope to continue to hear from y’all.

Pleas take care of yourselves.

Keep struggling – Keep smiling

In solidarity,

Call for Support

An anarchist prisoner, Sean Swain, is currently in administrative segregation and being denied basic rights. We are asking that folks take action to help Sean by calling or writing the facility’s warden, amongst other agencies, and demanding the following:

1. That Sean be returned to general population and the inconclusive investigation called off.
2. That they immediately give Sean our many letters, including the extra paper and stamps (embossed envelopes) we have sent.
3. That they give him the books we had sent from publishers to him, which have been denied on frivolous grounds.
4. That they give him the same access to commissary as anyone in ad seg.
5. That there be no further retaliation against Sean for his writings, his grievances, or his attempts to remedy the mistreatment by the parole board.

Instructions on how to do so are provided on the link below.

Also, the website provides and address by which Sean can be written. So please send some words of encouragement and love.

Until every cage is empty,

Salt Lake ABC

Please take a moment to send some support to these political prisoners at a time when they need it most. Even something as simple as ‘stay strong, we support you’ will lend a great deal of solidarity. For more information on the case, please visit

A fundraiser of delicious proportions.

The Salt Lake ABC loves a good pun. This is what spawned the “Soup-port Solidarity” event.

As a benefit for Salt Lake’s Anarchist Black Cross, there will be a vegan chili cook off this Friday evening (9/27). Vegan baked goods of an assorted variety will also be available. The donations for baked goods will vary, but we are asking a $3-5 donation for an array of different chili’s and soup. In addition to good food, good music will be provided. Entertainers are as follows: The Uniswarm, Timothy Boulanger, No Sense of Porpoise, Emma Zink, Sam Woodward, and Jason Dickerson. Here’s your chance to meet some local artists and feast on delicious cuisine. This will take place on the East side of Liberty Park in one of the pavilions. Look for black balloons and clothing. Also, please invite those who may be interested.

Give the masses… zines?

Last month, the SLABC was able to table with SLACOPH (Salt Lake Anarchist Crew of Paper Hustlers) at a hardcore show. The headlining act just so happened to be 90’s political band Trial, and although those of us in attendance were extremely offended by sexist comments made by a band that played before them, we are thankful to Trial’s singer Greg Bennick for giving us a shout out and helping us pass out more literature. There’s nothing like hearing “this song goes out to the anarchists in the room,” to boost morale. We were able to take some photographs of Trial playing in front of a banner. We hope you enjoy.

For those of you who are unable to make out the text from our ‘high resolution’ camera phone photos, the banner says: “(A) END CAPITALISM (E)”

Adjective: Having normal physical functions suspended or slowed down for a period of time; in or as if in a deep sleep.

The Salt Lake Anarchist Black Cross has been asleep at the wheel in regards to updating this blog. Sorry. From this point on we will be active!

Since our birth last summer we have been hosting a monthly letter writing night. The next scheduled date is May 21, which is this coming Monday. They are always at the Boing! Anarchist Collective (608 South 500 East) and start at 5pm. Anyone (except those with ties to the government i.e. cops, federal agents, and informants) is invited. We provide the supplies.

No racism, sexism, homophobia, or other destructive behaviors will be tolerated.

Next month’s letter night is the 18th. Same place and time.
